Section of a stack-bonded hit-and-miss
wall with gaps 75 x 265 mm (top)
or 75 x 180 mm (below).
Some of the many possible variations of
decorative gap patterns.
Freehand illustrations by Max Granger
after the style of Laurie Baker.
Staggered gaps 41, 50 or 62 mm wide,
with no cut bricks. It is recommended to
place bed joint reinforcement in full
courses above and below hit-and-miss
brickwork.
Gaps 130 x 265 mm with a half-brick
projection are useful to control sun
penetration on west-facing walls.The
projecting bricks are supported on
corbels and taken up to the eaves.
The upper level brick
screens are a signature
element on the retail
development at 19 James
Street, Fortitude Valley
(more page 78).
