Darius Wells Library & Resource Centre
Darius Wells Library

The complex comprises a new district library and information services facility, community facilities including a multipurpose hall, crèche, an art and design workshop and office accommodation for a number of community services organisations. The building is fully integrated with the adjacent new Town Square, creating a dynamic new meeting place within a cultural, civic, recreational and commercial precinct.

The Centre also creates a unique landmark identity in relation to facilities both existing and proposed as part of the City’s town centre revitalisation program. As the City of Kwinana has one of the youngest demographics in WA, the Centre provides much needed services and resources in the rapidly growing community. Materials selected for the project were required to be robust and easily maintainable. The dynamic building form provided exciting opportunities for the use of diverse materials, and playfulness in the use of colour, texture and varying surface finishes.

Feature glazed stack bond brickwork, utilising multiple colour selections with simple patterning provided an opportunity for a lively street level elevation treatment.
